Janet Vendrig

I live near the small lakeside town of Port Perry, Ontario where I grew up filling sketch books along the wooded trails of my rural home. I have always been deeply connected to nature and the rhythm of our four seasons. My parents were onsite caretakers and stewards of a 400 acre forested estate and hobby farm on the Oak Ridges Moraine. I spent most of my childhood outdoors in this magical place fuelling my imagination and creativity. Most evenings were spent colouring, sketching, reading and doing crafts with the soothing rythmic sound of my mom’s knitting needles clicking in the background. After graduating from the University of Toronto, I returned to my home town exploring different mediums with local artists during my career and while raising my family.

I am still in awe of the natural places where I live and play. I create in acrylic, watercolour, and mixed media using the same natural colours and textures that have always surrounded me. I create for personal joy, growth and fulfillment working from my riverside studio which overlooks a significant wetland habitat area that I’m grateful to call home. My work is deeply connected to and gently echoes the outdoors.

When I’m not in my studio creating, I can be found outdoors with my dogs and family active on the trails, slopes and shores of Lake Scugog and Georgian Bay.
