Janet Vendrig
I live near the small lakeside town of Port Perry, Ontario where I grew up filling sketch books along the wooded trails of my rural home. Growing up my parents were onsite caretakers and stewards of a 400 acre forested estate on the Oak Ridges Moraine. My childhood was spent outdoors in this magical place fuelling my imagination and creativity. After graduating from the University of Toronto, I returned to my home town exploring different mediums with local artists during my career and while raising my family.
I am still inspired by where I live and play. I create in acrylic, watercolour, and mixed media using warm earth tones, layers and textures to gently echo the outdoors. My layered compositions are both a visual and tactile connection to the tranquil spaces I live in. My vibrant autumn leaves, painted in translucent watercolour layers, mirror those surrounding our home every fall.
Each piece I create evolves slowly and thoughtfully from my riverside studio, which overlooks a significant wetland habitat area. My work is deeply connected to this serene natural space, my home for over 33 years, a place to pause and breathe a little deeper.
When Iām not in my studio creating, I can be found in my gardens, reading, or active outdoors with my family and dogs on Lake Scugog and the shores of Georgian Bay.
I am a member of the Scugog Council for the Arts and the Oshawa Art Association.
