Janet Vendrig

Janet Vendrig lives near the small lakeside town of Port Perry, Ontario where she grew up filling sketch books while wandering the wooded trails of her rural home. As the daughter of caretakers for a 500 acre wooded estate on the Oak Ridges Moraine, most days were spent outdoors fuelling her imagination and creativity. After graduating from the University of Toronto, Janet returned home exploring different mediums with local artists during her nursing career and while raising her family.

Inspired by where she lives and plays, Janet creates in acrylic, watercolour, and mixed media. Using soft muted earth tones, layers and textures she gently echoes the outdoors. Her layered compositions are both a visual and tactile connection to the tranquil spaces she lives in. Her warm vibrant autumn leaves, painted in translucent watercolour layers, mirror those surrounding her home every fall.

Each piece Janet creates evolves slowly and thoughtfully from her riverside studio, located in a significant wetland habitat area not far from her childhood home. Janet’s work is deeply connected to this serene natural space, her home for over 32 years, a place to pause and breath a little deeper.

When not in her studio creating, Janet can be found in her gardens, reading a book, or active outdoors with her husband, family and dogs on Lake Scugog and the shores of Georgian Bay.
